University of Oxford Mastercard AfOx Scholarships For African Students
400 young African scholars will get the opportunity to pursue fully-funded taught master’s degrees at the University of Oxford in subjects linked to pandemic preparedness and recovery thanks to the University of Oxford Mastercard AfOx Scholarships.
Young Africans who are driven, deeply anchored in their communities, and with an eye toward the world are supported to pursue graduate studies at the University of Oxford through the Mastercard Foundation AfOx Scholarship program. The same principles of the Mastercard Foundation and AfOx—collegiality, empathy, dedication, inclusivity, and community—form the foundation of the AfOx Scholarship program.
The Scholarship is a component of the larger AfOx Graduate Scholars Program, which strives to assist African students in taking advantage of Oxford’s prospects and succeeding both during and beyond their academic career.

Details of the University of Oxford Mastercard AfOx Scholarships
The Scholarships provide funding for a demanding one-year taught Master’s program at Oxford University. The program’s objectives are to provide Scholars with relevant technical, entrepreneurial, and leadership skills as well as links to top global resources in their respective fields.
A strong emphasis on life skills beyond the classroom, support for a lifetime network of alumni, and sufficient support and preparation for students to begin their studies are all important components of the scholarship program.
The best instruction possible in particular fields essential to addressing urgent issues will be provided to each Scholar. These fields include, but are not limited to, food systems, health sciences, sustainable water and energy systems, governance and public policy, and entrepreneurship.
The four AfOx themes—Healthy People, Integrated Societies, Green Futures, and Innovation for Prosperity—that are pertinent to Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals will be the focal points of their programs.
Oxford University requirements AfOx Mastercard Scholarships
- Graduate study at the University of Oxford is open to students from all African nations thanks to the Mastercard Foundation AfOx Scholarship. The scholarship will be available to any student who resides in Africa and has been granted a conditional offer by the university.
- Scholars who have historically been underrepresented are specifically highlighted in the scholarship, including but not limited to women, individuals of refugee and displaced backgrounds, and scholars with disabilities. Students from displaced and refugee backgrounds will have their necessary residence taken into account.
By the deadline for your selected course of study, submit your graduate study application through the graduate admissions portal to the University of Oxford in order to be eligible for this grant. Before submitting the application, please carefully read the Application Guide. It is highly advised that you send in your application and any necessary supporting materials no later than one week prior to the December/January start date of your course.
Following a conditional offer from their course, qualified individuals will be encouraged to apply for the AfOx Graduate Scholarship Program. During the application process, all invited candidates will be required to complete the AfOx Graduate Scholarship questionnaire.
Before choices are made, the shortlisted candidates will participate in virtual interviews; the schedule will be disclosed during the interview phase.
